The paintings of Clara Laureys give you the feeling that one can step into it or that one can take a peek into a mysterious world. Based on this idea, in 2000 she made a first series called ‘intermedium’, where the canvas is divided by a band, creating a peeping window. In her work Clara Laureys creates controversy together with harmony: the focused image together with the vague, consciousness and the unconsciousness, figurative together with abstract, reality and that which goes beyond reality. The window seems to create an extra dimension here.

In the collection ‘Impressions of Microbiology’ she focuses on the invisible reality in the human body. To gain access to that micro-world she followed a cell biology course at the University of Antwerp.

Her work shows experiments with different materials and shapes, but oil painting is still her favourite choice on the canvas.
